US Army 1911 Handgun Training from 1944

Wow. It sure makes you realize what Jeff Cooper and those guys were up against, doesn't it.

Right from the outset, you see the close-up of guys snatching at the trigger like they were playing cowboys and Indians.

Then all that finger-on-the-trigger business. They must have had more negligent discharges and training accidents than Barney Fife. To go with it, the number of muzzle-sweeps is epic. It's like an RSO's nightmare. No wonder the training officer held onto the magazines until the guys got on the firing line, and you can bet that they were loaded with just the four rounds required for each of those groups of two shots, twice.

And that was the advanced course!

The constant use of the safety lever to bring the pistol into battery makes me wonder just how worn the catch notches are going to be on a lot of those 1911s that the CMP eventually starts selling. [/i]
