Vintage S&W knife kits?
#1
Anyone ever seen any of these?
Should I build them, keep them or sell them?
I tried searching S&W knife kit and only found recently made combo type stuff.
Anyone?

Pg 376 Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson:

"Kit knife
To be finished and assembled by owner. Serrated spine, never authorized for sale by S&W, $350."

Sorry for the repeat info. I didn't initially read thur the other forums posts, only ours.

I'm a bit confused on the "never authorized for sale by S&W" part.
Were these made by S&W then or are they counterfeits?
I'm getting that they were made by S&W but never released by them for sale and someone else ended up with them and sold them off?

That "never authorized for sale" reads to me like they were to be given away as gifts, or included with a firearm or other item as a set.

That's just a guess, but I've never been wrong about anything before.

I'm sure your wife totally agrees with your "never been wrong before" opinion.
Wink

But really, I was thinking along the same lines.
They seem to be legit S&W items, the boxes are constructed the same as other period S&W pistol boxes and if someone counterfeited the S&W logo the should have been making old coins instead the logo is that good.

Maybe I'll sell one come income tax refund time and keep the other, or maybe try to trade both for a firearm since I'm not a knife guy...

I like the format. My UCII is very similar to that pistol.
