Walmart ammo find!
#1
Ok.....I routinely stop into both of our local Walmart stores to see what ammo happens to be in stock. I have had luck a few weeks back with always finding CCI Mini-mags and even realized they dropped the prices ($6.77 now instead of $6.97). The past week or so I've been out of luck, though......none to be found on the shelves.

But today when I stop in.......I happen to see that they have about 10 boxes of Federal 115gr 9mm (100rd box) for $19.97. In the year or so I have been stopping in and looking over the ammo shelves, I have NEVER seen this stuff in stock. I bought all 10 boxes and they rang up $15.97! I told the cashier that the price is wrong and the shelf price is marked $19.97......but he said "if that's the price it rings up, I'm gonna honor it." Kinda cool and made my day.

You sir, are the reason the rest of us have such a hard time finding good deals!

Just kidding, congrats on a good find, and even better that you got the additional discount. I think I would have asked if there was any more that hadn't made it to the shelf yet. Wink

I have noticed that more and more Walmarts are stocking the ammo shelves. I think they finally realized that they were losing customers.

On the way home from the Oaks show last week I had to stop at Walmart at Trooper and Egypt Rd. in Norristown for something. Made a run to the sporting goods and their ammo cabinet was completely stocked. Even though I bought ammo at the show I have to pick up a box of Federal .223 100 round bulk pack for $35

Saturday I was out with my Wife and we had to stop in at Walmart. I swung by the ammo case and found 10 Boxes of 9mm Federal. I couldn't buy all of them but I did pick up 5.

I was thrilled to see them (I haven't seen it in months). Mine rang up regular price, about $106 after tax.

I sent a friend of mine a Tweet right away, telling him to get over to Walmart to pick up the remaining 5 boxes, but I don't think he made it.

Indiana had one left on the shelf, regular price.

I did grab some Tula a couple months ago and it came up $6.97, same thing, guy says if that is what it comes up, that is what is costs.
There were only two boxes left though, figures...

I've never understood why people can't find ammo at Walmart. I don't think there has ever been a time when I've walked back to check the counter and not seen at least 10 boxes of each common caliber. UMC bulk packs are always around too.

Wal-Mart wasn't the only place to have a shortage. Late 2008 into mid 2009 it was hard to find common ammo almost anywhere including Wal-Mart, and when you could find it the price was extremely high or there was a limit on how much you could buy, maybe both.
Reloading components were the same way, the price of a brick of primers went from about $15.00 - $17.00 to around $30.00 and you were lucky to find them anywhere. The availability has come back to near normal but the prices haven't.

Depending on the result of the upcoming election I wouldn't be surprised to see something similar happen again.

There has to be what, a hundred WalMarts across the state?
So there are all those stores just in this state competing for a limited amount of product and IIRC, the manager for the dept makes the order and decidees how much to stock.

The other day was the first time in months that I was able to get a bulk pack of the Fed 9mm.

And not that I care really, but considering people are panic buyers and will clean out the stock doesn't help either.

If you are finding it in your store all the time, it's either because the manager is on the ball or nobody in your area shoots or hoards.

There is usually quite a bit of ammo at my 2 local Walmarts....... Just not the specific ammo I am looking for.

For example - I almost always find Federal 9mm 115gr 50rd boxes in stock. I just don't want to pay the 12.97/box when I can get the 100rd bulk pack for 19.97. Also, I often times see the Tula 9mm in stock but I haven't had any experience with that ammo and since I can find other (brass or aluminum) cased ammo for the same, or cheaper, that's what I stick with.

I have noticed a real lack of CCI MiniMags lately. Not just wallyworld, either. Many of the local stores seem to be out of stock.
