If you're arcing then either fix the wiring or ignore it, screw in a incandescent, and hope your house doesn't catch fire. While your at it ignore it if you see old aluminum wiring and splice into it with copper without a care in the world. When you see knob and tube grab hold of the arrestors with one hand on one and another on the other. It'll be stimulating. When ever you need a new outlet connect whatever wire you have sitting around to 12 guage.. you only have phone wire? Just use 24/4 on each connector. Its the equivalent. . And yes ive seen that in homes....
