Went through the Get Home Bag
#1
I keep a small alice pack in my truck in case I break down somewhere or there's a SHTF event while I'm away from home. I keep items such as cold weather clothing, flashlight, sunscreen, headache medicine, pocket knife, fmj ammo (in case I end up in Jersey) etc. My bag has been in my truck for around a year now. Here's what I had noticed.

I had a bunch of MREs which I think I'm going to replace with high calorie bars instead. MREs take up a lot of room.

I also found that the ammo I had in my bag is of a caliber that I no longer regularly carry and the mags are of a gun I no longer own.

The flashlight was filled with dried up battery acid ( I guess it is). Also, my extra batteries had leaked out their content. I'm going to look into batteries that can withstand hot and cold temps better.

I'm wondering how many people go through their bags and remove items that they no longer need or add new items.

I go thru mine every fall and spring. It gets converted to suit to the seasons and the weather, and to double check on items that is in it to make sure they are all still in decent shape.

Summer bag gets a bottle of water, since it won't freeze up on me. I keep one pack of MRE's in it. With the high calorie count, one MRE goes a long way. And offers me a bit of variety if it is a long trek home.

Only have one caliber of pistol, so no matter which pistol I have on me, it is the right caliber. (I am still considering making up a "trunk rifle" that will stay in the vehicle permanently. Yes, the ammo will be kept separate to make it legal.)

Take out the long johns and put in something lightweight instead. Like a rain shell, in case I'm traveling in a downpour. Time to retreat the boots that I keep in there. Want to keep the leather in good shape. I carry an old pair of boots in case I'm in tennis shoes or dress shoes when I'm out and things go badly.

I use the same bag and durable supplies for both BOB and backpacking, so mine gets checked and refreshed frequently.

Uh, why the FMJ in case of Jersey? I thought that hollow-point ban thing was not true.

Also who cares about those kind of laws if the SHTF enough that you will be using bullets lol.

I can't find a definitive answer if I can have hollow points in Jersey or not. Also, in a SHTF situation I could care less about their laws. But for the time being, I don't want to break their laws since I currently travel to Jersey.

Don't bring a gun, that's for sure.
