What could possibly go wrong?

Libyans hand over their weapons to the military to make themselves safe. Seems like that hasn't worked out so well historically. How long until we're asked to the same thing? But it will all be "for the children".

A few highlights:

Quote:Hundreds of Libyans handed in weapons left over from last year's war on Saturday, part of a drive by the North African country to rid its streets of arms and crack down on rogue militia groups.

"We want our country to be safe and secure ... We don't want to see weapons anymore," Tripoli resident Mohammed Salama said, as he stood in line to hand over a rifle.

"I want to live in a peaceful place where only the police and army have arms," Benghazi businessman Ibrahim Ali said after handing over a machine gun.

"Libyan people need stability ... They are handing over weapons to the military so that they are kept in the right place and not on the streets," said Yussef al-Mangoush, the army's chief-of-staff. "This is the beginning, we began this in Tripoli and Benghazi. We will go to other cities."

"It's not like before, the army is getting stronger," he said. "You cannot buy safety, you have to feel safe. And I feel safe right now."

Peace. A concept not based in reality.

Especially when you leave it up to someone else to provide it for you.

I wonder how violent his machine gun was. Rolleyes

Seriously, though, if this is accurate those people are idiots.

If it is made up, I wonder if the "powers that be" hope the sheeple in America will decide to follow suit.

They're even getting first-hand interviews with these people. It's apparently they're going to use this as a shining example of the liberal ideal.

As an adult I only started to fell safer after bringing arms into my home. Funny how people can see the same thing so differently.
You have a right to protect yourself and a duty to protect your family.

your post should be slightly modified to read: "Peace, a concept that tyrannical states will not allow."

Nah. It has less to do with government than the natural ways of human beings since the first hairy ape bashed another hairy ape over the head with a rock over a scrap of food.

"peace" is a pipe dream.
