Really shouldn't lump everyone together..... As I pointed out.....the lack of unity anywhere in conservatives makes it inaccurate to assume anything based on a person's "group".....

You're right. The lack of national unity is even more damaging. United we stand, divided we fall. It's more than a flashy phrase.

Yeah but like "The Moral Majority is Neither" you have to admit that it makes one helluva good bumper-sticker. Smile

Of course the problem is that too many folks' depth-of-thought extends to what fits on a bumper sticker. And some of them get radio and tv-shows!

Yep, on both sides of any issue...

The pandering to social conservatives created enthusiasm in the midwest and south that Bush needed to win electoral votes, but it was pandering to a demographic that is growing smaller and less influential. This strategy alienated the Libertarian leaning wing of the party and this was further exacerbated by the fact that Bush governed as a fiscal liberal.

Social conservatisism is not generally consistent with pro-liberty ideals. Evangelicals have been encouraged by their leaders and media sources to express their social preferences in the political arena. That was a mistake and took the focus away from smaller government and Constitutional government. The focus needs to be 100% on reducing the size of government.

Social conservatisism is not generally consistent with pro-liberty ideals.

Given that they want to turn counties into theocracies, I'd tend to agree with that.

You believe everything you're told. Don't you. Social Conservatism doesn't necessarily require socially conservative values legislated. Just respected and allowed. Social Conservatives elect Socially Conservative politicians to protect their socially conservative ideals, not to necessarily legislate or enforce them.

Irony ITT. How do Social Conservative politicians protect their ideals without legislation?

Easy, the same way pro-gun politicians protect their ideals without legislation. By not voting on or presenting bills which would go against those ideals.

Yes, because this collective "they" which you refer to includes every socially conservative politician to have ever lived, right? Shrug

No, but I would say it is a significant percentage of them. Just last week some idiot Rep from Georgia was on the rape and pregnancy thing again.
