"When did that law change?"
#1
At Daughter's softball game last night. I was sitting on the bleachers...Mrs was sitting in a chair with the other "cool parents"... Wink

Then I hear her say..."oh, yeah he has a permit, but he doesn't need one for open carry. You only need a permit to carry concealed and in a car."

"mumble, mumble, mumble..." I couldn't hear the other half of the conversation.

Mrs: "No he HAS a permit, but again he doesn't need it for carry like."

"mumble, mumble."

Mrs: "Scott, when did the law change for that?"

My stock answer is "It's always been allowed"

I've heard that question many times so I thought I'd ask here.....has OC ever been illegal in PA? Was there a change in law to allow it?

I can't say if or when OC was illegal in PA but I grew up in AZ where it's been legal for at least 30 years and people still don't realize it. It's not too suprising people just don't know.

I had first heard about OC when I was about 18 or 20. That was about 30 years ago. The better question is, when was it ever illegal?

As far as I know, OC without a permit has never been illegal in PA (ok, I'm ignoring Philthy here).

I'm willing to bet that 80% if not more of GUN OWNERS do not know that open carry is legal in PA.Shrug It is rare that I talk to someone and they knew it was legal. If gun owners don't know it, then you can be sure that NON gun owners really have no idea.

There never has been a law against OC, that's why it's legal. Laws make things illegal. No Law = Legal.

For years OC would get someone cited for disorderly conduct. Just like giving someone the finger would. It took the courts saying, "no that's protected conduct" to make it stop on both accounts.
