White House Plans To Overwhelm NRA With Rapid Victory
#1
Quote:The White House and gun control supporters are gearing up for a whirlwind month, with plans to pass reform legislation before outrage over the Sandy Hook massacre has a chance to fade.

While the fiscal cliff has dominated Washington’s attention in recent weeks, lawmakers and activists are laying the groundwork for their big push. Vice President Joe Biden, tasked with heading a commission to investigate gun violence, has been quietly meeting with experts, interest groups, and public officials and is expected to release a set of recommendations within weeks. Boston mayor Thomas Menino, co-chair of Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns, told the Boston Herald this week that an optimistic Biden had assured him that Obama would sign legislation “by the end of January.”

“We had been led to believe their report would come by end of January, but we’re hearing they may want to have something out by January 15, even quicker than expected,” Mark Glaze, director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, told TPM.

It's the "BILL OF RIGHTS" not the bill of "needs"

Oh i think the NRA and 2nd amendment supporters are already fully prepared and waiting for this "whirlwind."

I seriously doubt any kind of mag or semi auto ban is going to happen, unless the R's want to be COMPLETELY destroyed as a party in 2014 mid terms.

Destroyed by whom? What party? You mean republicans will start voting for democrats? The republican politicians little fear because the sheep will still vote for them. I dont see stubborn republicans going out and voting libertarian (if there is one running) and they will continue to by the lesser of two evils stupidity that has brought us to this point. I however think (maybe its more hope) that everything will be blocked.

Destroyed by the voters that don't vote for them in 2014 as a result. The voters that just stay home, like they stayed home for Romney.

I am sure that they know had the right turned out in force, they would have won the WH. If they pass an AWB, the right will stay home in 2014 in a very big way.

Tell them you expect the democrats will vote anti gun policies, and if they do the same you will cross the aisle and vote against party lines to spite any republican that votes for this, and hope for a true conservative the next time, but the priority then will be to unseat any republican with an anti gun agenda.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Most of the anti gun related outrage over the CT shooting faded weeks ago. Media coverage is almost nil and has been since Christmas. The public turkeys have found other shiney things to hold their attention.

I hope you're right, but to me it feels like the calm before the storm.

The public has a short memory. There won't be a second round of anger.

I would say that you and many of your friends have always leaned democrat on several issues (rights) but two of them you and your friends leaned republican (balanced budget and gun rights) and since they don't want to support either that you will move to the other side of the aisle if they don't start now.

Obama wants it, and has wanted it from the start. Joe Biden was put on head of a team to make it happen. I expect the media to fuel it as much as they can to keep the outrage fresh enough to demand something.

Again, I do hope you're right, and the fact that so many politicians are wanting to push it while emotions are still high makes me have hope you are right, but I do not think this will go away as quick as any of the others.
