I've never been accused of being remotely close to a klan member before. I'm sorry you feel that way. And I'm sorry that people would link any sort of Christian with the Klan anyway.....I didn't even know there was a link there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan

Quote:After the American Civil War of 1861–1865, members of the Protestant-led Ku Klux Klan (KKK) organization began engaging in arson, beatings, cross burnings, destruction of property, lynching, murder, rape, tar-and-feathering, and whipping. They targeted African Americans, Jews, Catholics, and other social or ethnic minorities.

Klan members had an explicitly Christian terrorist ideology, basing their beliefs in part on a "religious foundation" in Christianity. The goals of the KKK included, from an early time onward, an intent to "reestablish Protestant Christian values in America by any means possible", and they believed that "Jesus was the first Klansman." From 1915 Klansmen conducted cross-burnings not only to intimidate targets, but also to demonstrate their respect and reverence for Jesus Christ, and the ritual of lighting crosses was steeped in Christian symbolism, including saying prayers and singing Christian hymns. Within Christianity the Klan directed hostilities against Catholics. Modern Klan organizations, such as the Knights Party, USA, continue to focus on the Christian supremacist message, detecting a "war" which allegedly aims to destroy "western Christian civilization."

There are more and more "militias" popping up on facebook looking for candidates to recruit. there look for certain types of people who they can persuade them to look and follow a common belief that they con the candidate into thinking that they believe in. my brother in law is a federal law enforcement officer and he is always sending me bits of info on different groups. central pa is a hotbed for this type of activity.
as for being racist, i have no doubts that you are not racist. it was not meant to be a mean post at all.

My "type" of Christianity is profoundly pro-Israel, so it must not be the Klan "type". Our church is also extremely diverse.

Not offended or anything, just a little surprised.

I hate all racism....including racism against whites.

Cool

Unfortunately the PC culture we are in labels you as a racist for what you've displayed in this thread no matter how accurate and brutally honest it is. I think that is all they are trying to point out. They are pulling your chain pointing out that somewhere some random Googler is likely to link to this thread as an example of how intolerant white Christians are.

I'm a little bit racist and not the least bit ashamed. I'm also not afraid to admit the shortcomings if white christian culture. Guess I'm just a hateful person or something.

I think, therefore I am, ipso facto...

But that's the problem... People will take one sentence from your ENTIRE LIFE and paint you as nothing more than that little quote, regardless of history or context. Amazing, isn't it? That the very people who are so upset about being painted by broad strokes are so eager to do exactly that to everyone else. Fucking Hypocrits.

And another god damned thing... People need to stop confusing "racist" and "bigot". I'm an equal opportunity bigot, but only if you are doing your best to live up to your own negative stereotype. I have never once been a racist.

So let's say this (caution, this is strongly worded to make the accurate point):

A) people coming to our country should ONLY speak English, and should NEVER be able to vote. Racist? No, that's Nationalist (like the Nazis, or what Russia has become).

B) queers, Jews, and niggers make me sick. racist? No, bigoted.

C) I will never let queers, Jews, or niggers work in my store/attend this school/vote. Racist? You betcha.

Hope this clears things up and everyone has a quality day.

I thought that one of the cool things about this forum is that we weren't expected to be PC. I probably wouldn't say everything I say here on just any online forum.

I'd say a majority of the users on this forum are far from PC. But many of them enjoy playing the part just to get some conversation going, nothing wrong with that.

I grew up an hour away from the MX border.

Towns with Hispanic ratios as high as 85%.

I did K-12 in a giant rural school district with a jurisdiction larger than the entire state of Connecticut. Hundreds of kids in ESL throughout my entire schooling.

The bonus: Spanish classes were easy.

Also: Puerto Ricans not as easy to get along with as Mexicans. Less high-strung.

Also, the food was awesome. And I got a great education and great job opportunities living in South Texas. It's not a bad way to live. That's why thousands of people move down there from up north every year.

So what if you hear Spanish everywhere you go. It's not even real Spanish it's Tex-Mex/Spanglish.

White English-speaking Anglos and German-speaking Germans were invited to Texas by the Spanish government to help settle it and displace the native Indians who were murdering Spain's colonists. It's been a Spanish-speaking state for 400+ years, and only English-speaking since the 1850s. It wasn't even predominately English when it became a Republic in 1836.

Anglos can deal with it. Trust me it's way better than being in a bilingual land where the other language is French. Now those folks are stuck up as all-get-out.

I want to know why the government is settling people from these various groups in specific places like how Minneapolis is suddenly having huge problems with Hmong and Somali immigrants who have suddenly appeared in these massive communities and want the locals to bend to their whims and cultural practices. If I owned property in one of those places where the government suddenly dumped all these people on out of nowhere I'd be apoplectic. The government ought to keep immigrant refugee families intact, but we should not be in the habit of suddenly creating these massive immigrant communities overnight settling all these people intentionally in one spot. They have zero incentive to interact with normal Americans. Also as far as I'm concerned if your kids in North Dakota need a Spanish speaking teacher then they are perfectly welcome to carry on repeating the same grade over and over until they can speak our language, be we ought not to be hiring special teachers and all this other bullshit in an effort to make sure that the next crop of people from illegal immigrant households cannot aspire to be anything beyond a janitor because they can't read, write or speak English. I also want to know where the people who think this "diversity" for the sake of diversity is a good thing think the money is going to come from to pay for all these special teachers and what-not because quite honestly a lot of the people the article refers to ain't the tax paying type. Start the presses!
