Why Obamacare is Failing

WaPo reveals what happened when Healthcare.gov was being built.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/c...ml?hpid=z1

Quote:...
In the end, the economic team never had a chance: The president had already made up his mind, according to a White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to be candid. Obama wanted his health policy team — led by Nancy-Ann DeParle, director of the White House Office of Health Reform — to be in charge of the law’s arduous implementation. Since the day the bill became law, the official said, the president believed that “if you were to design a person in the lab to implement health care, it would be Nancy-Ann.”

Well, they're either horribly incompetent or they intentionally hamstrung it to keep people from fully realizing the cost until it's farther down the line, and they've got everybody scrambling to comply or just pay the fine.

Either way, .gov gets extra tax money, and a lot of people are finding out their present plans are being canceled. Now they have squat for coverage. Oblio CLEARLY lied through his teeth about keeping one's present plan.

Personally, I think the end game is single payer with .gov running the show. Low info voters and those scared enough of the repubs will keep this shit going, until it boils over and we're all well and truly effed.

Of course. Isn't that why you posted it? I don't know if I fully share Goldstein and Eilperin's assessment, but it's a good read, nonetheless.

As much as I hate to admit it, to his credit, Barry kept telling them the website was the most crucial piece, and they flubbed it, either for the reasons stated, or because they have another agenda, which is possible. Could be a mixture of both. Shrug

I can see where their fear of the opposition hamstrung them to a point, but they had a job to do and a deadline to meet, and it didn't get done. This isn't the first administration to put people in charge who look good on paper, but can't find their ass with a flashlight in broad daylight. It appears they were so poorly funded and coordinated that they were doomed to fail. Hence my opinion that some of this may have been intentional. Shrug

Repub attempts to defund it is just one way to topple this white elephant. The states' refusal to build their own exchanges, dumping it on the feds, is also a contributing factor.

What I got from the piece, to boil it down as short as possible, is that Democrat defense-planning on the Healthcare law is helping to choke itself.

I am also surprised that they're still using ANSI X37 transactions between insurers; I guess that's to be expected. The EDI data format to describe healthcare transactions is extremely complicated (I worked on it for a contractor many moons ago). This introduces a scale of complexity that's pretty deep.

What's so friggin embarrassing for them is that just getting an ID to get into the site just to look at the plan menus is crap. I tried to create an account Thursday. I have yet to get a welcome message or confirmation to my email account that I have a Healthcare.gov account.

Then there's those two level of credit-bureau checks to verify income and identity. I bet those are nasty bits right there; especially relying on something like a credit reporting agency to come up with "income" estimates. [Why not use IRS data for that?]

There's gonna be push from the Obama Administration to delay the individual mandate if this is not all fixed by Christmas.

I wonder if the House GOP will use this to their advantage and force the individual mandates to go ahead as planned or only agree to a delay to save the Democrat's skin on certain "terms and conditions".

Oh, I agree. If the source is right, they second guessed themselves into fibrillation on this one.

They were too paranoid, or so scared of giving the opposition any ammo, that they didn't set it up to use IRS data, even though it makes sense to do so. They've already been under fire for IRS mis-steps, now they're too gun shy.

Given this story, the GOP could have just stepped aside and green lighted this, and it would still have gotten stuck in the mud. Although it does appear the GOP did scare them enough to make them ineffective for implementation.
