Well that didn't take long. I think PA just set a new record in showing how fucked-up our government is.

(Harrisburg) --The Republican majority in the Pennsylvania Senate is suing Governor Tom Wolf over his firing of his predecessor's appointee as head of the state Office of Open Records.
The lawsuit filed today in Commonwealth Court says Governor Tom Corbett's appointee, Erik Arneson, is entitled to serve a full six-year term and that Wolf illegally terminated him without cause.
The lawsuit seeks to restore Arneson as the agency's executive director and declarations that Wolf violated the state Right-to-Know Law and the state constitution.
Corbett appointed Arneson one week before Wolf was sworn in as governor.
In a statement, Wolf says: “With one of his first acts, Mr. Arneson demoted a qualified chief counsel in favor of a Corbett staffer.
“By removing Mr. Arneson, I am standing up against an effort to destroy the integrity of the Office of Open Records and turn it into a political operation. These attempts to change the office, which exists to protect the public’s right to know, are the exact reasons people distrust their state government.

So, Wolf's response to a possible minor political slight is to violate the law, while using that slight as an excuse for the very same action he then took... Am I reading this right?

I actually agree with the not drilling in state parks. There aren't that many in PA (land-mass wise), and lots of people still go into them. It's not like federal land out west and in Alaska which accounts for over 70 of state land mass and is generally not accessible.

AND state forests, which is far more acreage the state parks alone. I don't have the stats at my fingertips. I don't see the issue with it (fracking, that is, not the ban) since logging and other activities which disturb the "natural" state of things are pemitted.

*ETA-
PA State Park acreage = 283,000 acres
PA State Forest acreage = 2,200,000 acres

I'm not a fan of the logging in state parks either.

I have no issue at all with fracking or logging (so long as both are done safely and not at the expense of the land), but I think it should be only on public lands. When you have a private entity vying for land-use rights with a governmental entity there is too much possibility for corruption and political manipulation.

I feel the same way about federal lands (potential for corruption wise), but make the exception because in some areas of the country the feds own the overwhelming majority of the state.

How in the hell do you "rape" a fracker?

Or maybe they should just be allowed to pump all of the state's resources out of the ground and sell them without paying anything for the privilege as is required in nearly every other locale?

Not clear to me who's "raping" whom.

I would hope to see a reasonable extraction tax that puts money into the state coffers without hampering in investments and employment.

However, even a high tax wont make a difference if the money isnt spent wisely and for truly necessary purposes. Roads, bridges, school upgrades... not teacher salaries, mind you, but for fuck's sake I'm sitting in an elementary school right now that has no HEAT!

But welfare, luxury public housing, and payola to all the cronies and political grifters with no-show "jobs" all need to be trimmed and/or eliminated.
