Women Cleared for Combat

Quote:The Pentagon formally announced Thursday that it would lift the ban on women serving in combat positions, in one of Leon Panetta's last acts as President Obama's Defense secretary.

"The department's goal in rescinding the rule is to ensure that the mission is met with the best-qualified and most capable people, regardless of gender," Panetta said in a statement.

The White House also endorsed the decision Thursday morning, as Panetta prepared to brief reporters Thursday afternoon.
The change would open hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war.

Personally I don't like it, not because I don't think that women can do the job I just don't think that they should. That has almost everything to do with my natural 'hard wiring' of wanting to protect the women switch that no doubt some would consider misogynistic, but...whatever.

Since it's lifted though, I say go all the way with it now...require women to register for Selective Service and be eligible for any draft that may ever need to be implemented. Otherwise, it's not really fair that women get to pick if they want to go to war while forcing men to get drafted, especially since the ban on women fighting in the wars is over.

What say the rest of you? Any other misogynists who would rather see the women-folk protected from combat?

Not me, I love women ... Wootwoot Tongue

Misogyny is the hatred or dislike of women or girls. Misogyny can be manifested in numerous ways, including sexual discrimination, denigration of women, violence against women, and sexual objectification of women. Misogyny has been characterised as a prominent feature of the mythologies of the ancient world as well as various religions. In addition, many influential Western philosophers have been described as misogynistic. The male counterpart of misogyny is misandry, the hatred or dislike of men; the antonym of misogyny is philogyny, the love or fondness of women.

As long as they can meet the requirements, and the requirements are not lowered, who cares?

Misogynistic or not, the hard truth is most women can NOT do the job! So much so in fact the 5 event PT test I took when I first enlisted was dropped because the girls who enlisted when we went to the All Volunteer Army couldn't pass it! So we adopted the 3 event PT test and if you read the score card you'll find the pass requirements are very different between men and women of the same age group. Bear in mind here I'm only talking about the PT test. That does not include the rigors of close combat or even the chores associated with living in a combat unit in the field. Do you really think the average woman could tote the base plate or cannon for an 81 mm mortar?

Granted there are some females that could do it but I think they are more te exception than the rule.

Guilty as charged. What the fuck else would I sexually objectify, a floor lamp?! When idiot feminists rant about men objectifying women, I always have a laugh.

Gman106;71516 Wrote:I'm not a misogynist...ok, maybe a little, but I think it is complete and total bullshit. No one, man or woman, should be in a public safety or combat position if they cannot meet the exact same identical physical standards. Redundant enough for you? The second they reduce the number of push-ups, sit-ups, weight-lift, body-drag, timed run, etc, troopers will die needlessly in the name of equal rights and political correctness. Again, absolute BULLSHIT!

Same reason women do not belong as firefighters, police or any job that puts themselves, their co-workers and the public at danger because they are not physically equipped to perform at the same physical level of a male.

Then there is the cultural aspect. As a man, would you not worry more about the safety of the female, potentially jeopardizing missions? Chivalry is hard-wired. And what about hygiene? It's gonna smell like a fish factory out there after extended field conditions! And men will be neutered from making macho jokes out in the field, etc., and doing the male bonding necessary to form a cohesive fighting unit. Is America ready for the gang rapes and torture that will happen if captured? Much more likely in a front-line unit. And then sexual tensions and jealousies tearing the unit apart, too. And pregnancy.

The purpose of the military is to break things, blow things up and kill people. Anything that negatively effects this purpose must be minimized or eliminated. This social engineering shit at the top of the list.

Don't discredit yourself. You're right on most points.

Women have significantly lower standards, expectations and requirements in Basic Training and beyond. Equality means equality, so those standards will have to be made equal. Either male standards will be brought down to what is pathetic expectations for a male or female standards must be brought up to incredibly prohibitive levels for females. That's one point.

Secondly, women's physique simply isn't designed for it. Basic Training facts are as follows. Women have much lower physical requirements. Despite this, women still suffer an exponentially larger amount of physical injuries in basic training.

Third. Yes, there are some bad-ass women out there. There are also bad-ass men as well. They're apples and oranges. The most ruthless, vicious and dedicated female DI is a pup in comparison to the lowest level male DI in physical ability and leadership effectiveness. Not only do they offer less as trainers and training leaders, but their battlefield leadership would be equally diminished.

Fourth. Culture and emotion. Our military culture of excellence is one based on testosterone and brotherhood. Something females naturally lack. Sure, there is a butch man-woman here and there, there are also butch 14 year olds here and there as well. Women in combat create a liability. Men naturally feel a need to protect women, especially in dangerous situations. There's no denying that a majority of men will be adversely affected performance-wise by the mere presence of women combatants.

Fifth. Equal is Equal. No longer can a woman join the military knowing she'll be kept off the front lines. Sure, things happen and they need to defend themselves. But, there's a difference in being placed in harms way and the off-chance that danger finds you behind the lines. Now a woman can only join the military under the full expectation that she'll be sent to the front lines. This may discourage many good and talented women from joining.

I know, I'm a racist and a homophobic.

Smartass Wink I didn't say I was one, only that I'd be labeled one because I don't see women as being VERY different from men, and not as dickless men with boobs.

^ that. I really don't care as long as the army's requirements for infantrymen, tankers, etc. stay the same. I've seen female cops who can kick my ass (and I'm not a small guy) so why not? However, I do believe they should also have to register for the draft now too.

They can't, but the requirements since i have served have already been lowered numerous times.

How many of you doubt for one second that you could easily manhandle and gut a woman in close combat? I mean seriously...it's ridiculous.

Why don't women play in the NFL? Same reasons apply.

It can't, and it won't.
