WOW! What a difference!!!

So, after wasting two (2) years, three (3) appeals, and about $600 on a MD CCW, only to ultimately be denied for "lack of a good and substantial reason", I recently moved to Lancaster County. Just after going to get my Driver's License, in PA, I drive over to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department only to "inquire" as to what it would take to get my PA LTCF. I say that because even with my FL out-of-state CCW, which I was succesful in acquiring, I still had to provide a military DD-214, and other assorted forms and ID's. Now, just for some background info, I had previosuly received a death threat in MD, from a punk who vowed to "go home, get my gun and come back and kill you and your whole f@#$ing family". This threat, even by MD's definition, meets the "good and substantial reason" clause, provided one can provide either a notarized eyewitness account, or a police report cooberating the account. I lacked a police report, only because the officer who came to take my statement was called away to go and arrest the same punk that I had just stopped from literally choking a young lady to death, because he was now beating her down in an alley two blocks away. Anyway, after spending only 20 minutes, and $20, I walked out of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, LTCF in hand! The irony, because of PA's recent "loophole law", in June I lost the ability to carry in PA, on my FL out-of-state CCW, because I could not obtain a MD CCW, as required by PA's new law. Anyway, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The moral to this story is: protect your RIGHT TO CARRY, before you wind up losing it, like they have in MD!

Congrats. We left MD in 2005, and I'm sorry it took that long.

Thanks! And now the REAL kick in the shorts, for MDers, is that it was recently released that the "Woolard vs. Sheridan" case, which was to challenge the "good and substantial reason" clause, is not going to receive certiorari by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). Marylanders, hoping to finally be able to carry, were dealt a legal gut punch by that decision. Angry

Congratulations Deadeye on getting your PA LTCF. It's insane what happened to you in MD with the death threat and CCW denial. And in regards to you losing your right to carry in PA because of the closing of the Florida "loophole" you can thank PA Attorney General Kathleen Kane. Please remember her name when she is up for re-election and you go to vote Wink

It's a shame, because Maryland is so very nice. The Catoctin Mountains and the Chesapeake... Frederick was really nice when I was stationed there.

I think her name ends in (D), if I'm not mistaken. I don't vote for ANYONE whose name ends in (D). I had personal friends who ran for office in MD, who wanted my support, I told them I don't vote for ANYONE whose name ends in (D). They asked me why not? Well, look at; Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, Washington DC, and Baltimore, all ran by people whose names end in (D), all bankrupt, or going that way. Not to mention the Governor's (MD) name ends in (D) as does Obama's. Need any more reasons?

Yes, I used to avidly boat the Chesapeake Bay, and I will again, but not before I fill my boat up in PA. I work in DE, and I make sure I have enough gas to get to DE, and/or enough to get home from DE, just so I don't pay MD one thin dime. I travel Route 40, or Route 1 to avoid ALL tolls, even if it means going out of my way. I give that State NOTHING, unless I can help it. My only goal now is to only take from it.

Yep... we go from Allentown area to Harrisburg, then south on 15 to the Beltway, and don't hit 95 until Virginia when on our way south. F em.
