Just bought a springfield xds-9mm. I'll post my opinions early next week after I get it to the range.

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Well, I couldn't wait until Friday. Just got back from the range.

1. It was shipped bone dry. No lube/cosmoline. Evidently early problems with light strikes with the early xds-45 were due to lube in the striker channel. Lightly lubed the rails appropriately before use. 75 rds without a hiccup.

It came with gear and two 7 rd mags. 10 rd mags are about $50 each, which I consider pricey.

2. I shot one box of fiocchi 115 RN. Functioned great. Shot 1 box of my extremely valuable Golden Saber JHP. 4" pattern at 21 ft. Got better with practice, got it to 2-3". One of the guys at the range tried it out (Marine), 1-2" at 21 ft.

3. Red dot front site (don't like)and white dot rears. I had problems finding the front red site. I will order night sights for it when appropriate.

4. It is a little heavier than the LC9, which is good. Better grip texture, IMO. It doesn't hurt my hands like the LC9. I have big hands, so I just ordered the Pearce grip extensions for the mags as well as a CBST IWB.

5. I can see this becoming my every day carry.

I'm not a fanboy, don't give favorable reviews unless they are warranted.

Mind if I ask what it cost you?

My friend just picked one up this week too for around the same price. I can't wait to shoot it! He said it's a little too big for pocket carry though. I think it'd make a great summer carry gun.

Yep, both the xds and the lc9 are too big for pocket carry, IMO. Maybe OK for a cargo pocket with a holster. The xds is about 1/3 inch longer and 0.3 lbs heavier when loaded (1.63 lbs) than the lc9.

I like the trigger on the xds as opposed to the lc9. I think having to do the long trigger pull/squeeze is what produces the hand pain from the recoil with the lc9.

But the lc9 is an incredibly comfortable IWB carry. I am hoping the xds is just as comfortable.

I'll still hold onto the lc9. I seem to be moving to all 9mm for semi-auto. No messing about with multiple ammo types.

With the exception of my LCP (for when I have to pocket carry), I did the same thing. I have a Ruger SR9c, Glock 19, and Canik Stingray (CZ P01 clone). I have a GI 1911 .45 too, but that's more of a range toy than anything. Which holster are you looking at for your XDS-9?

I cut the red fiber optic sight with a razor blade and removed it.

Replaced it with the green fiber optic, which is easier for me to see.

Fairly easy process.

It comes with a piece of red and green fiber optic.
