1 in 7 GM vehicles sold in the US are made overseas. Half are made in Canada or Mexico.

100% of Honda Accords and Acura TLs are made in the USA.

Dodgy
Unfortunately though with the Hondas and Acuras the majority of the profit is sent to Japan.

I'd question that statement. The Hondas and Acuras are sold at American dealerships who receive all of the profit on those sales (excluding state and federal taxes paid). The Manufacturing facilities in America sell those vehicles to the dealership paying the manufacturing facilities employees wages. The majority of design and management is done in the many Honda of America office buildings throughout the US paying wages to Americans. They're deigned in America, by Americans. Built in America by Americans and sold in America, by Americans.

I'd venture to guess that the vast majority of the profit actually remains in the US.

Look into Honda's profit statement and remember that Honda USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honda of Japan. Trust me, the majority of the profits go to Japan.

Where am I going to look at Honda's profit statement? I know Honda of America is a subsidiary of Honda. But, the majority of which profits? Shrug

It's creating and maintaining innumerable jobs in America. Regardless if a trace amount of cash finds it way back to Japan.

You could go to Honda of Japan's website to look for the profit statement. It is more than a trace amount of cash that finds its way to Japan. As a matter of fact there is quite a bit more going to Japan from Honda that there is for Toyota and with similar lines, research and development, and manufacturing facilities.

The fact of the matter is Honda is moving more manufacturing and R&D over here while GM is moving more overseas. Most of Honda's manufacturing done here is new, same with the R&D. As time's gone on they've moved more and more over here.

For the North American market you are 100% correct. That doesn't change the fact that the profits go onto the ledgers at the mother company in Japan.

Which is fine by me, whereas what GM is doing is not.
